Herbivore Botanicals: Lapis Facial Oil

February 21, 2017

Lapis Lazuli is a favourite stone of ancient Egypt, and is known for its rich blue hue. Herbivore Botanical's Lapis Facial Oil is named for it's gorgeous deep blue oils it contains, including Blue Tansy and Blue Yarrow. Azulene, found in both oils, is a powerful anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial that aids in redness reduction and clarifying complexion. Perfect for blemish prone, or inflammation prone skin.

This 100% natural facial oil includes:

German Blue Chamomile: reduces redness and broken capillaries, natural anti bacterial that works to prevent blemishes from forming

Blue Yarrow and Blue Tansy: powerful anti inflammatory and anti bacterial

Jojoba oil: amazing moisturizing capabilities (due to being so similar in structure to our skins own natural sebum) and helps other oils to absorb more deeply into the skin without clogging pores.

Squalane: emollient properties act as a light barrier, and protects the skin against hyperpigmentation and premature aging.

Jasmine Sambac oil: comes from the steam of thousands of jasmine petals, and works to increase the skins moisture content and increase its elasticity.

Indian Arm Blog Post

February 20, 2017

Our Indian Arm Bath Salts are inspired by the sparkling waters, rugged mountains and breathtaking wilderness of the scenic fjord in our front yard. Leave civilization behind, cleanse your mind and escape with our clean, fresh, mineral-infused blend.

Handmade in North Vancouver, our Indian Arm Bath Salts are infused with Tea Tree Essential Oils and Eucalyptus. Eucalyptus is known for its clear, sharp herbaceous scent. It helps to clear congestion, heal burns, blisters, wounds and insect bites, and combats sore muscles and joints.

The health benefits of Tea Tree Essential Oils can be attributed to its properties as an antibacterial, antiseptic, antiviral, bactericide, fungicide, stimulant and sudorific substance. Tea Tree Oil is great for the skin in cases of acne, infections, cold sores, warts and athletes foot.

Combined, Eucalyptus and Tea Tree Essential oils create Indian Arm, a refreshing and revitalizing soak perfect for your end-of-day wind-down.

Tea Feature of the Month - Bourbon Vanilla Rooibos

January 28, 2017

Bourbon Vanilla Rooibos
A beautiful blend of South African Rooibos, Madagascar vanilla beans and natural vanilla extract steeps up an addictive cup of tea.

What is it?
The plant, Aspalathus Linearis, is grown in a small area in the Western Cape province of South Africa, but during recent years Rooibos has become popular in other parts of the world as well. Blended with vanilla beans and vanilla extract our Bourbon Vanilla Rooibos has nuances of strong bourbon and rich vanilla, creating a simple but robust tea.

Who drinks it?
Rooibos has been a popular drink in Southern Africa for generations and is now enjoyed around the world. The Bourbon Vanilla Rooibos is the perfect cup of tea when you're looking to indulge.

Where is it from?
Rooibos is largely grown in the Cederberg, a small mountainous area in the region of the Western Cape province of South Africa.

When should I drink it?
Bourbon Vanilla Rooibos is caffeine free, creamy and sensual. We love it with honey and steamed Almond Milk for the perfect after-dinner treat.

Why drink it?
Bourbon Vanilla Rooibos is a perfect way to relax your mind and body and is a great alternative to coffee. Rich in antioxidants and minerals, Rooibos is good for your skin, and can help relieve skin allergies and rashes. Rooibos is also loaded with Vitamin E and Iron, which is especially beneficial for women's health, as it has been known to ease symptoms of cramping and menopause. Vanilla Rooibos tea has also been known to be helpful in boosting the immune system and can relieve respiratory problems. It improves your blood circulation, lowers cholesterol, relieves stomach aches and promotes better sleep.

How is it harvested and processed?
Rooibos leaves are oxidized, and during its oxidization process the distinctive reddish-brown colour is produced and its flavour is enhanced. The vanilla beans and extracts are added to create Bourbon Vanilla Rooibus.

How to drink it
Ordinarily, it is enjoyed hot, but iced tea versions and even an espresso version made from concentrated rooibos with steamed Almond milk—or regular milk—are gaining in popularity.

Steeping Instructions:

  • 3 tsp. per 12oz
  • 195f / 90c
  • 5+ minutes will truly allow the creamy vanilla notes to escape from the diced beans

We recommend storing your tea in a light proof canister, in cool place - our favorites are the mini canisters by Dahlhaus Ceramics.

Cove Rain X Dahlhaus

January 19, 2017

Sunnyside has collaborated with Heather Dahl of Dahlhaus Ceramics again this year to create another limited edition Cove Rain candle. Our all-natural soy wax is hand-poured into ceramic vessels with a subtle pink glaze and a beautiful stony matte surface, highlighting subtle gestures that reflect the beauty of Deep Cove in the spring.

Once the candle burns down, you’ll be left with a beautiful one-of-a-kind tumbler you can reuse over and over again.
