Derived from Japanese green tea, Maccha is a full flavoured tea that has been lightly steamed and then powdered to preserve the nutrients of the whole leaf. The tea has a bold flavour and is known for its strong umami undertones.
Maccha green tea is known to have over a hundred times the amount of antioxidants and twenty-times the nutritional benefits compared to traditionally brewed green tea. These antioxidants and other nutrients enhance mood and concentration, ease anxiousness, and naturally detoxifies the body; it also lowers cholesterol and regulates blood sugar.
Maccha is prepared using a bowl, a whisk, and a small amount of hot water. A single cup of Maccha requires approximately ½ a teaspoon of the powder, and 8oz of hot water. Mix about 2 oz. of hot water with the powder using the whisk to remove any powder clumps. Add the remaining water and whisk until the top layer becomes foamy.
Try it iced for a refreshing beverage throughout the afternoon. Simply pour the hot mixture over ice in a cocktail shaker, and shake until chilled. Enjoy!
